The caste system was a social structure for the Indians. The caste system is a social class that people belonged in by birth. The ranks were Brahmans, Ksatriyas, Vaisyas, and the Shudras. The Brahmans are the kings and priests, the Ksatriyas are the warriors and princes, the Vaisyas are the farmers and merchants, and the Shudras are servants and slaves. Later on there was a new class called the untouchables and they were called that because they did the jobs no one wanted to do. They disposed dead bodies.
