1. Rewrite the standard in your own words. How does the assignment relate to the standard?
LS2d: Students know plant & animal cells contain thousands of different genes and typically have 2 copies of every gene. The 2 copies (alleles) may or may not be identical, and one may be dominant in determining phenotype while the other is recessive. RST6-8.4: Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific or technical context relevant to grades and topics. The standard relates to the assignment because I had to understand how the alleles are identical or not and I also had to know what phenotype and genotypes were.
2. What steps did you take to complete the assignment?
The steps I took to complete and do well on this assignment is to make sure I understood how to get the correct traits for each phenotype and solve for the offspring's phenotype possibility. Also, I had to make an egg and pretend it was my baby. I had to draw the phenotypes I solved for and correctly draw it on the egg. My egg's name is Riah.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment demonstrates that I can solve the phenotypes with only 2 sets of genotypes. Also I can draw and predict how the offspring would look like with only solving the genotype ( the letters) and seeing which would be recessive or dominant. It also shows that I can show my work and still get everything correct and also I can get a passing grade on it.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could've improved on my work on this assignment by being careful with my egg because it cracked in my backpack. Also, I could've brought an extra for me or people who need it but I ended up getting one from Riah. I should've brought markers so that I could decorate my egg better and also I should've made the hair prettier instead of putting it only on the front of the egg. To make the egg baby look prettier, I should've added more color and also made it less messier than it already is.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in the real world, as an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
I will apply the skills I learned from this assignment to later when I have a kid, I can check if the child is actually my child by looking at the phenotypes. Also, I can compare my phenotypes with my husband later on o find he genotypes, to see what the baby would look like when s/he is born.
