Pythagorean Spiral
1) Rewrite the standard in your own words. How does this assignment relate to the standard?
8.G.7 Use the Pythagorean Theorem to know unknown side lengths in right triangles in real-world and mathematical problems in two and three dimensions. 8.G.6 Explain a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse. This standard relates to the assignment because in the assignment, we needed to show work by looking for the hypotenuse by using the legs of the right triangle. After finding the hypotenuse of one triangle, it became the legs of the next triangle so I had to use that and the other leg to find the next hypotenuse and so on.
2) What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
The steps I took to do well on this assignment was to make straight lines and figure out the lengths of each legs to find the hypotenuse. There was a certain size we had to make the legs so I had to be precise. Since I had to make many right triangles to make the spiral, I had to get the lengths correct in order to make it look neat and pretty. Also, we had to show our work so I put in the lengths of each sides and decorated the spiral.
3) This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment shows the strength of finding the hypotenuse of a triangle without getting it wrong. I had to find the hypotenuse for every single triangle on the spiral so that is a strength that this assignments demonstrates about me. Also, since looking for the hypotenuse requires squaring numbers, it shows that I am good at squaring numbers to find the sum of the two legs.
4) I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have improved on my assignment by making it colorful and putting in more detail to the spiral to make it look cool. By doing this, I would be more confident in showing it to people and adding it on my digital portfolio. Another thing I could've improved on was to make a background for the spiral because I think it was too plain and it made he spiral boring.
5) How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the real world when you are an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
I will apply the skills I learned from this assignment in the real world when I have to find the hypotenuse of a right triangle to make or build something. Also, I can use the squaring part for when I need to find the volumes of shapes like spheres, cones, cylinder, etc.
