1.Rewrite the standard in your own words. How does this assignment relate to the standard?
6.SP.4: Students put numerical data in plots on a number line, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots.
6.SP.5c: Students give relating measures of center (median and/or mean). This assignment relates to the standard because the standard is saying to relate measures with mean, median, or mode and I had to relate it with all three of them. Also the standard talks about using a dot plot and I used the dot plot for the numbers of letters there were in a in word.
2.What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
The steps I took to complete this assignment was to first read the packet Ms. Ha gave, which is on the back of the poster, and do what it says. I had to get a dice and roll the dice. The number I got for the Shakespeare was 4 and the one I got for Harry Potter was 6. That number I got for the two poems was the amount of words I had to skip, and after the words I had to count 50 words to answer the other questions. I had to make a dot plot of the numbers of what letters there were in one word and a chart of numbers of words. Then I had to find the mean, median, and mode of both sides. Then, I made a poster board and pasted all the things I had to answer on a poster.
3.This assignment demonstrates the following strengths…
This assignment demonstrates that I can make different kinds of charts. For example, a box plot, number chart, etc. It also shows that I can find the mean, median, and mode of a group of numbers and not get the math wrong. I can make a poster about a comparison of two thing, for example, I compared Harry Potter and Shakespeare in this project. It demonstrates that I can demonstrate the poster pretty and neat, so that Ms. Ha would like it.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by …
I could've improved my poster by showing my work for how I got the answers for mean, median, and mode. Since I didn't do that, I got a three, but next time I have a math project, I know to show my work. I should've just put the dot plot on the poster and not on a paper and pasted it, because it looks like I crammed everything to make more space, so it doesn't look that neat. I also should've used a bigger poster board to solve the solution of cramming everything in two small posters.
5.How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in eitherthe real world when you are an adultor in other classes while you are still a student?
I will apply the skills I learned from this assignment as a student for making another poster project and for comparing something. Also to find the mean, median, and mode for a group of numbers. I could apply it when I and an adult by doing a project for a business or for a salesman, because you have to hang up signs that say, for example, 30% sale!. I can also use it for a campaign for something or just making a poster for my kids or to help them make a poster, because I know they will have some sort of project.
