Planetary Lab
1. Justify how this project/activity/assignment meets the standard, using evidence from the standard itself to demonstrate your mastery and/or understanding.
Science & Engineering Practice 7: Engaging in argument from evidence. This Standard relates to the assignment because in this project, we had to do a debate. During the debate, we shared out opinion and argues upon different teams to prove them that their planet cannot sustain life while ours can. To do this, we got evidence from textbooks, internet, our ISNs, etc and we used the facts against the opposing team.
2. Elaborate on at least 1 Science & Engineering Practice you feel you met/gained from completing this project.
From doing this assignment, one Science and Engineering Practice I feel I met was constructing explanations and designing solutions. I know I met these practices because when we did this assignment/lab, we had to write an essay about the characteristics of my machine. We created a machine that would help sustain life in the planet we were chosen to do. Since we had a machine, I explained the things it could do and how it functioned. Also, I showed how and why I designed it the way I designed it and described what it could do to make life have in Uranus.
3. Upon reflecting on your work/experience and/or score, what is ONE SEP you could have done better on? How will improving in this SEP benefit future work/projects?
One SEP I could have done better on for this project was the Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating info part. I think I lacked this SEP because while doing the debate, my team did not really talk much. I think if we were to communicate with one another, we would've said more things to make the opposing team loose. Since my team didn't really talk about who is going to say what, we weren't really prepared for the debate. Improving this part of the assignment would help my team win next time and show that we prepared a lot.
4. How will you presently apply the content and skills you learned from this assignment in the real-world, outside of the classroom? Make connections between the content and your life.
I will apply the things I learned from this assignment outside of class when I need to try to prove myself right, I can use facts from what I know to win the "fight". Also, I can apply this assignment to when the world needs back up and we cannot live on Earth anymore. I can use the machine that my team made up to live on Uranus and everyone would thank me.
